The music by the Italian band Nosound is mainly inspired by the early albums of Porcupine Tree, No-Man, Pink Floyd, Sigur Rós, Bark Psychosis and by electronic and ambient music. Currently they are working on a new album, which is due in 2013. For those who can't wait for the new album, Nosound have a nice surprise: ahead of the new CD they recorded At The Pier, an EP containing three brand new tracks.

Beside the regular line-up consisting of Giancarlo Erra (vocals, guitars, keyboards), Marco Berni (keyboards, vocals), Paolo Vigliarolo (acoustic and electric guitars) and Alessandro Luci (bass, keyboards), they were supported by Marianne De Chastelaine (cello) and Chris Maitland (drums), formerly of Porcupine Tree and Blackfield. It seems that Maitland will play on all tracks of the forthcoming album as well. This certainly is good news because his playing adds value to the band's musical style. While listening to A New Start and The Anger Song I realized that the music has become more powerful compared to earlier compositions. It still sounds rather mellow, but more up-tempo which suits the band very well. The third track Two Monkeys is mellower and based upon the acoustic piano, the upright bass and sampled strings. Marianne De Chastelaine's cello has a leading role on this piece which adds some dramatic elements to the song.

Unfortunately this EP only lasts for fifteen minutes. Before realizing it the CD had already finished. Well, I pressed the play button over and over again, because I could hardly get enough of this beautifully performed mellow music. Although it reminded me of all the other albums Nosound have recorded over the years, the high quality level is guaranteed and that's all that matters.
