Simon Collins - yes, indeed, the son of - hit the music scene in the year 2000 with his debut album All Of Who You Are, and now thirteen years later his first album with his band Sound Of Contact appears. Dimensionaut is a concept album about a dimensional time and space traveller, who is on a mission to expand the boundaries of the human experience. The music on this CD is definitely inspired by the music of Genesis, but they also have a great prog sound of their own.

Dimensionaut opens with the melancholic title track followed by the instrumental Cosmic Distance Ladder, a great piece with rather aggressive guitar picking and firm drumming; like father like son! Not Coming Down will be released as the first single and the chorus of that song is really addictive. Closer To You is a ballad which in my opinion is a bit too sweet, but fans of Phil Collins will love this track. Last but not least Sound Of Contact treats us to the nineteen-minute epic Mobius Sleep, which in my opinion is the musical highlight of this album. The song is very diverse with lots of tempo changes, great hooks and riffs and astonishing melodies. Sometimes this piece of music reminded me of songs from the Genesis album Duke (1980). For Genesis and Phil Collins fans Dimensionaut is a real must have. Sound Of Contact is a new prog rock band that we should cherish!
