Jeavestone is a Finnish band with a unique style. Jim Goldworth (lead vocals, guitar and keyboards), Mickey Maniac (backing vocals, guitar and keyboards), Tommy Glorioso (bass guitar, castanets), Angelina Galactique (backing vocals, flute and keyboards) and Kingo (drums and percussion) are together since 1999 and this is their second effort. Spices, Species And Poetry Petrol is a melting pot of folk, heavy guitar riffs and many flute solos. Every track is an imaginative creation with a mixture of different styles. The band members themselves call it prog ‘n roll. Most unconventional tracks are Quela Pienta, The Power Of Swankle and Rapist’s Tango, a jazzy tune with funny lyrics. In my opinion, the best track is I’d Be Your Weakness, a combination of Crosby, Stills & Nash with a Camelesque flute solo and in the middle section a nice violin solo. Another fine track is Daytime Escape / Viejo the Rattlesnakes, that begins as a perfect early classic Camel-song with flute and tender vocals. Beautiful, especially on a Sunday morning. The second part of this track is heavier with guitar riffs and jazzy community singing. Erg, the shortest song, is very much in the vein of German band Rousseau. The longest track Innocence / Voice Of The Shadows / The Relief starts as Genesis, in the middle section a combination of Focus and Camel with heavy Status Quo guitar riffs and ending with flutes and acoustic guitars.
