Let's not hesitate to say that Mark Bogert's third solo album Antiquity Neon is a gem! I can't think of a better guitarist in the Netherlands. But he's also a skilled composer and arranger. All these qualities cumulate in this new, almost totally instrumental, album. For this album Mark has recruited a fine bunch of musicians: Juan van Emmerloot: drums, American star bass player Stuart Hamm, Pieter van Hoorn: drums, Harmen Kieboom: drums, Matthijs Kieboom: bass,Ravenna Moscoso: keyboards, Hanna Vis: bass and the late Edward Reekers: choirs. A star cast of musical talent is fantastic of course, but it does not always guarantee a great album. Well, leave that to Mark, Antiquity Neon sounds great and feels like a good collective. Up tempo and slower, more subtle songs interchange perfectly. And to be honest, all songs are very well composed. Great work! Stuart Hamm shows on Mercury Glow what a bass player extraordinaire he is. Edward Reekers, a singer who will be missed, sings beautiful and wordless in the acoustic Light Of love. The maestro himself shows he's not only the best guitarist in the Netherlands, but he can easily compete with the worldwide guitar gods. Antiquity Neon is great when you start listening to it and even gets better spin after each spin. To say mark Bogert shows that he's a guitar genius is an understatement. ***** Arne van Os van den Abeelen (edited by Tracy van Os van den Abeelen) Where to buy? |
