Maze Of Time is a Swedish prog rock band whose sound is mainly influenced by bands like: Genesis (early Genesis, that is...), Spock's Beard, Flower Kings, Galleon and Kaipa. Look Beyond The Shadow is an Cd, containing four tracks, of which one, the last song, is a remarkable epic, clocking in over just nineteen minutes. Maze Of Time opens this CD with a song called Electric Eye, and it is a marvellous neo prog track, reminding me of the seventies and eighties and some arrangements and melodies even remind me of a rather unknown band called A.C.T. . Follow up Salute For Us All is an almost instrumental song with a rather low tempo, and the track never really seems to come alive, unlike the intriguing opening song. The title track is very Genesis-like (think Selling England By The Pound), but it also features interesting jazzy elements and symphonic textures. Finally, we are treated to the masterpiece of this CD called Towards The Sun, a 100% pure neo prog epic with numerous varieties, bombastic passages, and a couple of wonderful, heartfelt guitar solos. Overall, a marvellous CD by this Swedish band indeed, and a must listen to for fans of the aforementioned bands. Highly recommended indeed.
