Odd Dimension is an Italian prog metal band and The Blue Dawn, a concept album, is their third full studio album. On this new album you can hear new singer Jan Manenti for the very first time and he really leaves his mark here already as his vocal performance is really outstanding. Furthermore, Odd Dimension, featuring Gianmaria Saddi (guitar), Gabriele Ciaccia (keys), Gigi Andreone (bass guitar) and drummer Marco Lazzarini, gets musical “assistance” from Derek Sherinian (on the title song) and singer Roberto Tiranti (Labyrinth) in Flags Of Victory. The Blue Dawn is a concept album with a rather interesting science fiction story in the veins of Rush's masterpiece 2112! This Italian cult band definitely is a must for lovers of the music of Riverside, Opeth, Porcupine Tree, Queensryche, Fates Warning, Dream Theater and even Magnum and Yes!!! There is so much diversity on this great album; powerful melodies, awesome instrumental passages, excellent vocal performances (check out the female vocals in the title track) and lots of other prog metal musical highlights. The absolute milestone of this album is the title track, a ten-minute prog metal “beast” which has everything you can and must expect from a great prog metal song! Another highlight is the power ballad like Escape To Blue Planet, featuring some amazing vocals from female singer Aileen. So, highly recommended by yours truly, although I have to say that you should not listen to The Blue Dawn everyday as it tends to get a bit boring then....
